Tucked away in the cool highlands of Negros Occidental, Salvador Benedicto (also known as SalBen) is a scenic mountain paradise dubbed as the “Summer Capital of Negros” the Baguio of the Visayas! With its chilly breeze, pine tree-lined roads, and breathtaking landscapes, this upland gem offers a refreshing escape from the tropical heat.

Situated about 47 kilometers from Bacolod City, Salvador Benedicto boasts misty mountain views, zigzag roads, and lush greenery. A favorite stop for bikers and travelers, its rolling hills and foggy pine forests resemble scenes straight from a postcard. The “Lion’s Deck Viewpoint” and “Malatan-og Falls” are two must-see spots that blend thrill and tranquility.

The people of Salvador Benedicto are warm and grounded, with Hiligaynon (Ilonggo) and Cebuano commonly spoken. Farming is a way of life, and simplicity defines their rural lifestyle. The town was named after Salvador Valois Benedicto, a war-time hero and former Vice Governor who helped establish a revolutionary government in the Visayas.

Food here is fresh and farm-to-table! Local eateries serve native chicken tinola, grilled liempo, cassava-based snacks, and locally brewed coffee grown in the hills of Negros. You’ll also find stalls selling fruits, vegetables, and handmade delicacies along the roadside.

Every February, the town bursts into celebration with the Kali-Kalihan Festival, showcasing the indigenous Filipino martial art Kali (arnis). The event blends cultural dances, tribal attire, and demonstrations of ancient Filipino self-defense techniques a thrilling and uniquely Pinoy celebration!
